Laser treatment for dogs involves a deep-penetrating light to promote a chain of chemical reactions known as photobiostimulation. This process helps relieve pain through the release of endorphins, and it stimulates injured cells to heal at an accelerated pace. During a treatment session, the handheld laser wand is slowly moved back and forth over the damaged tissue, producing a warm, pleasant sensation that most pets seem to enjoy and find relaxing.

Dr. Bethany Howe received her Bachelor of Science in Zoology in 1998 from the University of Rhode Island, and graduated from the Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine in 2005. She completed a small animal internal medicine and surgery internship in Westbury, NY from 2005-2006. She then worked as an Associate Emergency Doctor in West Islip for four years, before transitioning to small animal practice over the past 4 years. She opened the Hawkins Animal Hospital and Wellness Center in August 2014 and is a member of AVMA and AVHMA. Her interests include internal and emergency triage medicine. She is also very interested in holistic medicine and is incorporating aromatherapy into her practice of traditional western medicine, and is a level 2 Reiki practitioner and seraphim blueprint practitioner. Dr. Howe makes her home on the north shore of Long Island, NY with her husband, sons, 2 dogs, and two cats.
Dr. Yvonne Boutges is a 2003 graduate of Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine and completed her clinical year at Oklahoma State University. After 5 years of practicing full time at a primary veterinary hospital, she decided to broaden her professional knowledge, and began practicing emergency medicine and providing veterinary relief services for Eastern Long Island. Her professional interests include preventative, behavioral and emergency medicine. Dr. Boutges was born and raised on Eastern Long Island, and currently lives on the North Fork with her husband, son, a dog named Bunker, and cats Nero and Jitterbug. She enjoys spending her down time traveling, boating and fishing with her family, and any time on the beach. Currently Dr. Boutges is available on Fridays for surgery and appointments.
